The service will terminate after the conclusion of the Olympic Games.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>American Citizens Services<\/b><\/p>\n<p>U.S. consular personnel will be stationed throughout Rio de Janeiro and in the soccer host cities (Bras\u00edlia, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, S\u00e3o Paulo, and Manaus) to provide a range of emergency services to U.S. citizens in need.\u00a0 For emergency services in Rio de Janeiro, please email <a href=\"mailto:acsrio@state.gov\">acsrio@state.gov<\/a> or call +55 (21) 3823-2000.\u00a0 Outside of Rio, you may contact the <a href=\"\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/passports\/english\/country\/brazil.html\">U.S. Embassy or the nearest U.S. consulate<\/a>. \u00a0Passport replacements and other services requiring fees, however, must be conducted at the Embassy or a consulate.<\/p>\n<p><b>Zika Virus<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a <a class=\"ext_link\" href=\"\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/travel\/notices\/alert\/2016-summer-olympics-rio\">travel notice regarding the Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Zika virus is a mosquito-borne illness that can be spread from mosquito to human, as well as from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby.<\/p>\n<p>The virus is typically a mosquito-borne illness, but there have been confirmed cases of transmission through sexual contact and blood transfusion. \u00a0Because infection in a pregnant woman is linked to a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly and other poor pregnancy outcomes, CDC recommends that women who are pregnant should not go to the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information about Zika, visit the <a class=\"ext_link\" href=\"\/\/www.cdc.gov\/zika\/index.html\">CDC website<\/a> and view the<a class=\"ext_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2016\/01\/27\/zika-virus-what-you-need-know\">White House&#8217;s Zika page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Hotel Accommodations for the Olympics and Paralympics<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Shortages of hotel rooms are likely throughout Brazil during the Olympics, so you should <b>book your rooms well in advance<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Given the increased demand for hotel rooms, prices may be higher than normal. \u00a0Advertised rates for standard rooms are currently as much as $350 to well over $1,000 USD per night.<\/p>\n<p>Many hotels have lengthy minimum stays, require prepayment for the entire stay, and will not offer refunds in the event of cancellations.<\/p>\n<p>These rates and policies may fluctuate up until the time of the Games, but you should be prepared to pay premium rates for hotel accommodations. \u00a0<b>Confirm your reservations before you depart for Brazil.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Safety and Security<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please see our\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/passports\/english\/country\/brazil.html\">country information page for Brazil<\/a>\u00a0for current information on security and safety issues in Brazil.
