{"id":5352,"date":"2016-07-07T03:02:55","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T03:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.promptbuscharters.com\/blog\/?p=5352"},"modified":"2016-07-07T03:04:16","modified_gmt":"2016-07-07T03:04:16","slug":"san-diego-tourism-industry-expected-to-reach-record-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.promptbuscharters.com\/blog\/san-diego-tourism-industry-expected-to-reach-record-high\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diego tourism industry expected to reach record high"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN DIEGO (KUSI) &#8211; San Diego&#8217;s tourism industry is expected to set a calendar-year record for number of visitors, how much money spent and hotel room tax revenue generated.<\/p>\n<p>According to the San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA), it is projected that\u00a034.2 million people will visit San Diego by the end of this year,\u00a0spending $9.9 billion, staying for a combined 16.9 million nights in hotels,\u00a0and adding $266 million in room tax revenue to local government coffers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While San Diego has long been a popular travel destination, the\u00a0region&#8217;s appeal to travelers from around the world continues to grow and\u00a0strengthen,&#8221; said SDTA President and CEO Joe Terzi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In ever-increasing numbers, visitors are taking notice of all that San\u00a0Diego has to offer, from our iconic attractions and world-class museums to\u00a0our diverse neighborhood experiences and our innovative spirit that creates a\u00a0dynamic business climate,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the SDTA announced that convention bookings reached a 10-\u00a0year high with commitments for 1 million future hotel room stays.<\/p>\n<p>The increased business comes amid a marketing effort that included an\u00a0$8.9 million television, print, online and billboard advertising campaign,\u00a0along with the retention of a marketing representative in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism promotion was derailed two years ago during a funding fight\u00a0between the hotel industry and then-Mayor Bob Filner.
