Downtown versus Airport Pick-up
The first point is that just make a good calculation as to which is the better option- walk straight from the plane to your rental car or directly go to the shuttle or transfer to a downtown location in the city center.
Be aware and make use of the agencies rendering special offers on longer-term car rentals.
You must remember that at times it’s less expensive to pick up your car at the airport even with the fee, and on the other hand, you can save money by picking up your car at a downtown location.
You might be knowing that the easiest way to save money is to book early. You can avoid the last minute rush and hurry and needless to say that the longer you wait, the less rental stock is available and the more expensive it gets.

This summer, car renters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will encounter the highest prices in the USA. A recent survey from CheapCarRental.net came to this determination after comparing 50 main U.S. cities. Each one’s car rental rate during the month of August 2016 served as the basis of comparison.
When it comes to renting a car, the City of Brotherly Love isn’t so brotherly this summer. Renters can expect to spend an average of $83 per rental day at the check-in counter there, and that’s for the city’s cheapest available vehicle. Rounding out the Top 3 are Seattle and Boston at only a few dollars cheaper per day. With average daily rates of $81 and $80, respectively, they take the number two and three spots on the survey.
In contrast, car renters will enjoy low rental rates throughout much of Florida. Orlando, for example, shows the least expensive rate in the USA at a mere $26 per rental day. Its state partners of Miami, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale are also a bargain in comparison to Philadelphia. In all three Floridian cities, visitors should be able to find a vehicle rental for approximately $30 daily.
The following table compares car rental rates of 50 destinations in the USA. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for the cheapest available car in each locale during the period spanning August 1–31, 2016. For comparative purposes, each respective city’s airport was chosen as the Pick-Up and Drop-Off location.

Southern California
Bottle Tree Ranch
You will appreciate here in the city the bottle tree ranch which is the creation of one man. You will appreciate its photogenic appeal as well.
It is interesting to note here the “trees” being made of metal with bottles as the leaves, a super cool spot as well.
Unofficial Center of the World
Almost on the border of both Mexico and Arizona, the Center of the World is one of those roadside attractions that has everything. Some of the things you will see here are an actual piece of the Eifel Tower, a marker for the unofficial center of the world, a church and a whole bunch of murals.
Charlie Brown Farms
You will find the roadside shop having in it a lot of things like ostrich eggs, the worlds largest beef jerky and tons of crazy pieces of art while there. Just go through and enjoy this store.
Desert Christ Park
A park in the desert that was set up by a local church and that includes a whole bunch ofplaster sculptures from different events in Jesus life on Earth. You can even put yourself into a plaster sculpture of the last supper.
Salvation Mountain
A mountain painted and designed to tell the world of God’s love. This is one of my favorite stops in all of California and a place you will not soon forget.
Central California
Bravo Farms
Located on both the 5 and 99 freeways, this spot has a little bit of everything for the weary traveler. Including everything from food and drinks to the worlds famous 7 story treehouse and art.
Bubblegum Alley
In downtown San Luis Obispo this alley is covered in gum that has been added by locals and tourists for decades. If you are interested you can even purchase a piece of gum from a nearby dispenser and add your own.
Nitt Witt Ridge
The Hearst Castle of trash art, this house in Cambria is a great spot to take a tour of and just marvel at how intricate and over the top it is.
Underground Gardens
One of the largest tourist attractions in Fresno, the underground gardens were created by one man over the course of a few decades. You can still tour a few acres to this day and it gives you a great way to escape the Fresno heat.
Whoa Nellie Deli
While this spot is technically just a gas station, anyone who has been will tell you it is a lot more than that. The gas station has a full restaurant that serves everything from lobster taquitos to buffalo meatloaf.
Northern California
Chandelier Drive Thru Tree
There are three drive thru trees all along a 100 mile stretch of Highway 101. Each of them are basically the same, but how often do you get to drive through a tree? Might as well do them all, starting with the Southernmost tree which is the Chandelier Drive Thru Tree in Leggett.
Santa Cruz Mystery Spot
The Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz is one of the most well-known spots on this list. You will often see the bumper stickers the this logo on cars up and down the state, and it really is something that you need to experience for yourself.
Toads Hollow
In Davis there is a “underpass” for toads to cross the road safely. Not much else to say about this but it is a unique roadside attraction for sure.
Trees of Mystery
In the top left corner of the state sits this super fun roadside stop that has something for everyone. The trees here range from cathedral trees you can get married in front of to trees shaped like lightning bolts. It also has a sky tram that you can ride up to a vantage point for the area.
Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is the house that the Winchester family (of gun fame) lived in and that Sarah Winchester built non stop till she passed away. It has doors that don’t open, staircases that lead to brick walls and just all around crazy stuff that you have to see to believe. It is a great tour to take while in San Jose.
So there is my list of the best roadside attractions in the state. What did I leave off this list? be sure to let me know in the comments.
Sandals Royal Bahamian closing for two months
Info- //www.sandals.com/about
The Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island in Nassau will close from Aug. 15 to Oct. 13 “due to circumstances beyond our control,” according to a letter sent to travel agents.
Although the letter did not detail the reason behind the temporary closure of the resort, the decision comes weeks after labor tension led to a protest staged by the union representing Sandals workers, according to the Nassau Guardian. The resort employs about 490 line staff and 100 managers.
“We appreciate your patience as we work through this challenging time,” wrote Gary Sadler, senior vice president of sales for Unique Vacations, the sales and marketing arm of Sandals Resorts International.
Guests have been offered rebooking at another Sandals or Beaches resort and were assured that Sandals would absorb all airline change fees.
In addition, Sandals is extending two complimentary nights to any stay, valid for one year from original date and based on availability.
Sandals has set up a 24-hour hotline at (800) 965-2364 for questions and concerns.

Icelandair is offering passengers the option of booking their next transatlantic flight through Facebook Messenger.
The Facebook Messenger Stopover Bot is the newest example of the rising trend in Conversational Commerce.
Available 24/7, the new bot makes it easier than ever to book an Icelandair Stopover by bringing the point of sale directly to the customer, allowing passengers to book flights directly from Facebook Messenger.
The Stopover Bot is also an efficient customer service tool that can, together with booking and search functionality, answer commonly asked questions with quick, content rich answers combining text, photos and even video.
Guðmundur Óskarsson, director of marketing and business development at Icelandair commented: “We want to constantly improve the travel eco system for consumers, starting from the very beginning of their booking experience.
“Placing Icelandair ahead of the game and making flight bookings available through Facebook Messenger, marks the commitment to our customers.
“We know what platforms our customers use and want to embrace new ways to communicate and offer valuable interactions with them in that space.
“Through this thinking we hope to position ourselves as more than just an airline but as a software company and the launch of the Stopover Bot is another step towards our aim of customers being able to book a flight anywhere at any time.”
Developed with research that shows the popularity of messaging apps and consumer insight surpassing that of social media, Icelandair worked with Traveller in developing this first phase – the ability to book outside their website booking engine.
The project’s second phase, additional functionality for enhancing the user experience, is currently in development.

Traveling to Brazil for the Olympics and Paralympics
- Ensure you have a valid U.S. passport– You might be knowing that normally Passport is valid for at least six months past your intended return date. If your passport will expire before or during your trip, renew it now. You should sign your passport – in ink – and complete the emergency information page.
- Review Brazilian visa requirements. The Government of Brazil has waived the visa requirement for U.S. passport holders entering Brazil as tourists between June 1 and September 18, 2016.
- Travelers must have a valid U.S. passport and may stay for up to 90 days.
- For entry to Brazil before or after these dates, or for travel to Brazil that is not strictly for tourism, U.S. citizens are required to have a Brazilian visa.
- Visas for U.S. citizens normally are valid for 10 years and cost $160.00.
- If you do need a visa, you must apply through the Brazilian Consulate in the United States that is closest to where you live. Apply for your visa well in advance, as processing will likely take longer the closer it gets to the Games.
- Visit the State Department’s country information page for Brazil. It provides up-to-date information about visas, safety and security, and other issues related to traveling in Brazil.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This will enable the U.S. Embassy and Consulates to keep you up-to-date with important safety and security announcements, and help us get in touch with you in an emergency.
- If you are a parent traveling solo with a child (or children) under the age of 16, we recommend taking along a completed DS-3053 “Statement of Consent” form(s), signed by the other parent and notarized no more than 90 days before you depart. If you have sole legal custody of your child, we recommend bringing a notarized copy of your custody decree or other documentation (e.g. a death certificate of for the other parent) showing you have custody. This will be helpful if your child’s passport is lost while you are in Brazil.
- Check your overseas medical insurance coverage to make sure it covers healthcare expenses and medical evacuation in the event of an emergency while you are overseas. Medical capacity and infrastructure in certain areas of Brazil, including some soccer host cities, are untested in handling the volume of visitors expected for the Games.
The United States’ Lauren Hernandez celebrates after her floor routine during the artistic gymnastics women’s qualification at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

Zika Virus
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a travel notice regarding the Olympics.
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne illness that can be spread from mosquito to human, as well as from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby.
The virus is typically a mosquito-borne illness, but there have been confirmed cases of transmission through sexual contact and blood transfusion. Because infection in a pregnant woman is linked to a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly and other poor pregnancy outcomes, CDC recommends that women who are pregnant should not go to the Olympics.
For additional information about Zika, visit the CDC website and view theWhite House’s Zika page.
Hotel Accommodations for the Olympics and Paralympics
Shortages of hotel rooms are likely throughout Brazil during the Olympics, so you should book your rooms well in advance.
Given the increased demand for hotel rooms, prices may be higher than normal. Advertised rates for standard rooms are currently as much as $350 to well over $1,000 USD per night.
Many hotels have lengthy minimum stays, require prepayment for the entire stay, and will not offer refunds in the event of cancellations.
These rates and policies may fluctuate up until the time of the Games, but you should be prepared to pay premium rates for hotel accommodations. Confirm your reservations before you depart for Brazil.

Please see our information for victims of crime, including possible victim compensation programs in the United States.
Tickets
CoSport is the only legitimate source to purchase tickets to the Olympics and Paralympics for spectators who reside in the United States.
Rio 2016 has announced that they will sell any remaining tickets at venues throughout Rio and in the soccer host cities during the Games.
A few important things to remember when looking for tickets…
- Be aware of scams, fake ticket websites, and unlicensed ticket resellers. Tickets from unauthorized sources are not valid and may result in the bearer not being able to enter the event.
- It is a criminal offence to sell or supply Olympics tickets for higher than the face value.
Money
- The Brazilian currency is called the real (plural reais).
- You should expect to conduct daily transactions with a mixture of cash (in reais, as dollars are not accepted) and credit cards while you are in Brazil.
- Most businesses, including restaurants, accept credit cards, but smaller businesses and some small hotels may only accept cash.
- Not all ATMs work with international credit and debit cards.
- Most Banco do Brasil agencies have an ATM that will allow withdrawals from U.S. bank accounts (look for Visa, MasterCard or other credit card logos on the ATMs).
- Most ATMs will have a daily withdrawal limit.
- Pay attention to your surroundings near ATMs, and check your accounts frequently for any indication of fraud.
- Before you leave the United States, remember to notify your credit card provider and bank that you will be traveling to Brazil.

Etihad Airways has announced plans to increase Airbus A380 service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport in response to heightened demand from guests traveling between the two destinations.
Beginning on June 1st, 2017, the airline will upgrade its second flight between Abu Dhabi and New York JFK to its A380 aircraft.
The new service will join the airline’s existing daily A380 service, replacing the current daily Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Etihad first began welcoming guests on board its first A380 flight between New York JFK and Abu Dhabi in November 2015.
“The response we have received from Etihad Airways guests traveling between Abu Dhabi and New York since we launched the service nearly a decade ago has been phenomenal, and we are delighted to further expand our world-class product for all guests traveling to and from New York,” said Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief executive.
Etihad Airways first introduced daily, nonstop, round-trip flights into New York JFK in October 2006, and this autumn, the airline will celebrate ten years of service between Abu Dhabi and New York.
