This week, more than 6,000 attendees from 73 countries, including over 1,300 international and domestic travel buyers and nearly 500 media from the U.S. and abroad, attended the U.S. Travel Association’s 48th annual IPW. The event, which is the largest single generator of travel to the U.S., convened in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from June 18-22.

Over the course of five days, a record of over 105,000 pre-scheduled business meetings were conducted between travel buyers and U.S. travel supplier organizations, who purchased a total of 1,352 booths. According to the independent research firm Rockport Analytics, travel initiated by IPW is projected to bring $4.7 billion in direct bookings to U.S. destinations over the next three years.

The delegate count at this year’s IPW represents a 20 percent increase since the last time the conference was held in New Orleans, in 2002. In addition to the usual robust number of delegates from the UK, Canada, Mexico, Germany and France, this year’s IPW saw tremendous growth in delegates from China, Taiwan, South Korea, Chile and Colombia.

The real payoff for IPW will ripple through the local New Orleans economy for an estimated three years following this year’s event. IPW is expected to generate $1.7 billion in economic impact to the city of New Orleans and attract more than one million additional visitors to the New Orleans area during that time.

China now represents the third-largest overseas travel market to the U.S., thanks in part to a bilateral agreement extending travel visa validity for visitors from China to 10 years.

“IPW is a wonderful, unique event in that it brings the world to the U.S. in one location,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. “We remain dedicated to welcoming ever more international visitors to our country, and maintain that encouraging travel to the U.S. is the best way to keep us open and connected to the world.”

IPW brings travel professionals from every corner of the country—including representatives of hotels, destinations, attractions, museums, amusement parks and other travel businesses—together with the world’s top international tour operators and wholesalers that send travelers to the U.S. At IPW, buyers and sellers are able to conduct business that would otherwise be generated only through an exhaustive number of around-the-world trips.

National Travel and Tourism Week and a trip along with the Prompt Bus Charters in US

The travel community marks the event in a number of creative ways, from staging local rallies and conducting media outreach to securing proclamations and resolutions from local governments.

This year, our goal was to ensure that travel—and its positive impact—were part of the discussion amidst the 2016 election season. After all, travel is a primary industry in America. That’s why travel “hit the campaign trail” for National Travel and Tourism Week 2016. Our theme? “Travel ‘16.” There’s no debate about it—travel is a bipartisan industry that works for America.

New York Shopping tips…

You might be knowing that if you visit the city of New York, plenty of space will be at your disposal to make shopping.

You will come to come to know that the Big Apple has a wide variety of stores selling merchandise in every price range from expensive jewelry, antiques, exclusive works of art and the latest designer fashions to bargain priced jeans, shoes and t-shirts.

It is better avoid the merchants who sell low quality merchandise at inflated prices. With a bit of knowledge and patience, you can still find some really good bargains in New York City.

It is interesting to note that you will get nice things of your choice nearby New Jersey or the Hudson River Valley.

                                                           Tax matters…

  • You might be knowing that the state of New York requires all stores to charge a 4.375% sales tax on all sales and the city of New York waives the sales tax of 4% on all purchases of clothing and footwear under $110.
  • The tax is not refundable to out of state visitors or tourists. New Jersey, Pennsylvania and several other states charge no sales tax on clothing or shoes.
  • Several times a year, New York City declares a tax-free week. During that week, no sales tax is charged on items of clothing or shoes that sell for $500 or less.

The twin towers of the World Trade Center dominated the New York City Skyline prior to September 11, 2001. This photo captures the beauty of the buildings as seen from across the Brooklyn Bridge.

World Trade Center

On September 11, 2001, You might be remembering of the  terrorists attack of the World trade Centre and the allied hijack of the several airliners and intentionally flew two of them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center.  These two monolithic styled towers, that stood 110 stories tall and had been a signature part of the New York City skyline since 1973, collapsed and crumbled into oblivion along with five smaller buildings.

911 Memorial Park

On September 11 2011, the tenth anniversary of the infamous attack, the 911 Memorial was finally opened to the public and it is accessible to public as well.

You will find it being in the plaza-styled memorial having two immense waterfalls and reflecting pools situated within the original footprints of the destroyed towers.  You will also find here the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attack are displayed on bronze parapets surrounding the reflecting pools.

Just watch here the plaza with its roof with a canopy of green leaves from a large grove of white oak trees, with the entry pavilion of the Memorial Museum located within the grove.  All of it is within the shadow of the rising new obelisk of One WTC or the new Freedom Tower.
Visiting the 911 Memorial

You should remember an entry to the memorial requires a pass and it is free too.

You can make online bookings as well.

Unfortunately, only 1500 people are permitted into the memorial at any time, so access is strictly limited to holders of valid passes.

To ensure your visit, it is best to reserve your passes many weeks in advance.

If you arrive in New York City without a pre-reserved visitors pass and still wish to see the 911 Memorial, there are a few locations where a limited number of same-day visitor passes might be available.

You can go to the 911 Memorial Preview Site at 20 Vesey Street, City Hall Kiosk at City Hall and Broadway, or South Street Seaport at Pier 16.  The Hop-on, Hop-off Water Taxi at South Street Seaport may also have some same-day tickets. You cannot afford to miss its Centennial Park and it will showcase before you the stunning  views of San Diego from across the bay.

  • Free to enter

Getting There and Parking

Centennial Park is located at the far end of Orange Ave, opposite from the side Hotel Del Coronado is on. There is street parking around the park but with the restaurants and shops it can get hard to find in peak times.

History

Centennial Park is the historic location that the ferry docked at to load and unload cars for the trip back to San Diego proper. It was still doing this all the way until 1969 when the Coronado Bridge opened. A few local residents pushed to make the area into a public park which it is today. It opened in 1986 on the 100th anniversary of Coronado becoming a city.

The Park

You will find here a plaque that talks about the parks history and a large cement path with benches to rest at down the middle.

Moreover, the old toll booth that is placed right in the front of the park, paying homage to the time when it was used to take fees from those crossing the bay.

Walking down from this spot, you will reach another rock which has a plaque to talk about how this island and the base here were the birthplace of naval aviation in the early 1900’s.

You will come to know that  the best part of the park is just the view you get looking over the bay to San Diego.

To the left, there is a small beach which people are often taking advantage of and behind it in the distance you can see some of the large naval ships.

Just browse this site for more info- Coronado Island here.
